California Young Inventor Gets Funded on Shark Tank

February 9, 2024

We’re delighted to share that young inventor Nathaniel Wellen appeared on Shark Tank January 19, and the Sharks funded his invention, the Duo Umbrella!

Nathaniel first came up with his invention as an elementary student in Georgia when he identified a need for an umbrella that could be used simultaneously by an adult and a child, while keeping both dry.

He received a patent for this invention a few years before his family moved to California, where he competed in the California Invention Convention, and advanced to Invention Convention U.S. Nationals and Invention Convention Globals in 2022, winning awards at U.S. Nationals: 2nd place in the 7th grade category and the Originality Award.

Nathaniel kept honing his invention and says that “Invention Convention kickstarted everything and springboarded me to Shark Tank.”
