Interested in Being a Judge?

Judges are a vital component of the California Invention Convention- there is no competition or any awards without judges.  Our event continues to grow – we expect over 300 inventions in 2023 – so we need lots of judges.

Young inventors from across our state are preparing videos and invention documentation that display the results of their hard work and engagement in the Invention Convention curriculum at their schools. You, as a judge, will review these videos and documents using our online judging system and then, using provided guidelines, provide feedback through scoring and commentary.  These student inventors are the top inventors chosen from invention conventions at their schools.

Judge registration opens on March 6th, 2023. If you are interested in learning more, contact us — there is no commitment until you actually register. Once you register, we will send you a training video and we ask that you view it prior to judging.

Judges are assigned between 8-12 inventions to review.  Links to the student information, including video and documentation, will be provided to judges on April 10, 2023.  At their convenience, judges review the information and score the invention as well as provide feedback to the student. Scoring is completed  by 8PM on Thursday April 20, 2023.

While we understand that this type of virtual judging is not as exciting as actually interfacing with the students, feedback from our judges last year indicated that they still found it an enjoyable and inspirational experience. If you haven’t been part of the event before, you can learn more about the program and past inventors/inventions at our website.
